Eamon O'Donoghue - The Old Beak!

Break the law and you'll be doing bird!

Coming soon from Blind Mouse toys is this great little Judge Dredd Cosplay Penguin. The company commissioned fantastic artist Eamon O'Donoghue to produce the dazzlingly cool image above to promote this quirky little item.

Here's the blurb from Blind Mouse's website: "Released Q2 2013, standing 11.5cms tall this PVC statuette packaged in a window box all ready for display, for those that like it mint. The Judge Dredd Cosplay Penguin has comic accurate costume, NON-REMOVABLE helmet (as it should be), removable Lawgiver and all the attitude a little penguin can contain."

Here's the little dude below...

I loved Eamon's illustration for the collectable and was particularly impressed by his Dredd-world graffiti on the city blocks. He explained that he was a lapsed reader of the prog but still has a soft spot from Dredd, Slaine and the ABC Warriors. Maybe the Cosplay Penguin will lure him back...

He was thrilled to be asked to draw the image. He said “Being a big lover and collector of action figures I was delighted when Blind Mouse approached me to do the artwork for their Cosplay Penguin Products. Being a massive Dredd movie fan made it all more special!"

The old bill?

"The idea was to do a very typical illustration in style of painting that has a touch of the old skool fantasy painter about it."

"The painting itself was only my second fully digital illustration done on the Wacom Cintiq which I have only recently just bought. I started with my line art in Manga Studio (great for line art that one...)

Eamon's lovely line art. It's a shame he doesn't come with a day stick then we
could play Club Penguin - boom tish!

Eamon continues "I then fully rendered it in photoshop. There were four layers: lineart, character colours, background and foreground noise. I drop the opacity in line art layer as I go so the paint is what makes the form rather than the line."

The are some lovely details on the image below. Can you spot the following: a sky surfer, Otto Sump, Chopper, a block war and even anti Mutie graffiti?

P-Pick up a Penguin.

And here's the stunning final image. There's some ace little details here too, including some very Northern Chopper scrawl!

 The real Judge Bird-is.

Eamon continues "I believe the artwork will also be on a limited edition poster when you place an order for the figure at Blindmouse Toys." He's right of course, according to Blind Mouse's Facebook page, the first 1000 people to order the product will get a framable print of the image - cool!

HUGE thanks to Eamon for sending the images and commentary and to Blind Mouse Toys for giving their blessing. Please check out Eamon's fantastic website here and Blind Mouse Toys here.
